Course overview
Have you ever been at a restaurant, chosen the meal that’s right for you, and then barged into the kitchen to grab the ingredients and attempt to make that meal yourself? Of course not; you told a waiter what you wanted. They passed that order to the chef, and returned with your meal. That waiter is the middle man. And computer programs have a similar arrangement – they are called Application Programming Interfaces, or APIs.
When a program is instructed to converse with another program it needs an API so it can do it smoothly. An API is a software intermediary that lets one application talk to another. It sounds complicated, but thankfully we’re here to help. Think of us as the API between you and knowledge.
